Can You Still Get Pregnant After a Miscarriage?
If you’ve experienced a miscarriage, you might have apprehension about trying to get pregnant again. We understand! Keep reading to learn why miscarriages occ

Experiencing a miscarriage (typically before week 20) occurs in about 8-20% of women with known pregnancies. In many cases, miscarriages happen without even knowing you’re pregnant because they occur so early on.

At FemmPro OB/GYN, in Garden City and North Massapequa, New York, our professional team guides you through your pregnancy with compassion, expertise, and experience. We understand high-risk pregnancy, as well. We’re here to walk with you every step of the way.

Causes of miscarriage

Miscarriages can happen for various reasons, including:

  • Problems with the baby’s chromosomes
  • Poorly managed health conditions, such as diabetes
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Blood antibody issues
  • Issues with your cervix or uterus

In many cases, we can’t determine the cause of your miscarriage. The good news is — statistics are on your side. Miscarriages usually only occur one time. If you’ve experienced the loss of your child while pregnant, you have a very good chance of having a healthy pregnancy once you’re pregnant again.

At FemmPro OB/GYN, if you’ve had a miscarriage in your past, we closely monitor your pregnancy to give you the best care possible.

When to get pregnant after a miscarriage

After a miscarriage, your grieving process can be intense, which is entirely understandable. Our team recommends that you go through the emotions of this type of loss before trying to conceive again.

It’s best to refrain from intercourse for at least two weeks to avoid any infection. If you have a healthy, fully recovered body, you can get pregnant as quickly as two weeks after a miscarriage, but we recommend waiting one to two menstrual cycles.

Our team can help walk you through the timing and the process of getting pregnant again. We recommend that you feel physically and emotionally ready before you try to conceive again.

How to improve your chances of a healthy pregnancy

If you’ve had two or more miscarriages in a row, we recommend that you take a daily prenatal vitamin a few months before you get pregnant to get your body prepared for the baby.

We can also perform tests to determine any underlying causes.

Our tests can rule out or confirm a root cause of your inability to carry a child. We might also detect an issue that can be solved with medication, nutritional changes, or a minor surgical procedure.

If we can’t determine the cause, don’t lose hope. Many patients have had more than one or two miscarriages and still end up having healthy pregnancies.

We also have excellent prenatal care service to give you the support you need before, during, and after your pregnancy.

If you’ve had a miscarriage before and would like to come in and talk with our team about getting pregnant again, contact us today. Call the location nearest you for an appointment or use the online booking tool for your convenience.
